Past Projects – Cornwall Gas Connections

In 2015 £1.3 million in funding from the DECC Central Heating Fund was won by a partnership led by Cornwall Council and supported by a number of bodies including Cornwall Housing, Coastline Housing and Guinness Trust. The partnership focus was on 376 households which had been identified as fuel poor in a previous project.

With a focus on helping those most in need including those off the gas network and in isolated rural locations, Warm West were tasked with facilitating the gas connection element on the scheme.

We worked in partnership with SSE Energy Solutions and Wales & West Utilities to deliver a seamless gas connection service that tool householders through survey, application and install.

Our work in Cornwall included considerable analysis as we sought to identify qualifying LSOA’s, calculate property distances to existing gas pipes and compile groups of eligible properties. With this done we worked with a number of social landlords to generate and process applications for a new gas connection. In all we processed applications for over 300 social tenants as well as around 100 private tenants and homeowners.

During our time in Cornwall we received and evaluated 435 applications and issued £161,031.64 in connection vouchers. These vouchers allowed 201 homes to join the gas network and receive a new central heating system. These new connections greatly improved the energy efficiency of properties and reduced the cost of household energy bills.

Our work in Cornwall was one of three major gas connection projects we undertook in the West of England. Read more about CozyDevon and our work in Gloucestershire with the Warm & Well Partnership.
